Modern device management is not a single workflow anymore. IT teams are supporting more operating systems, more device types, more remote users, and more frequent platform changes. Apple, Windows, Android, ChromeOS, shared devices, labs, classrooms, and distributed workforces all bring their own requirements.
That complexity is not going away. The goal is to make it easier to manage.
FileWave 16.3.1, the current release in the 16.3 line, focuses on the parts of endpoint management that matter most in day-to-day operations: smoother upgrades, clearer administrative workflows, a stronger platform foundation, better security defaults, and continued support for Apple's modern management direction.
Built on a stronger foundation
The most important platform work is often the kind administrators should not have to think about every day. FileWave 16.3.1 continues that work with updated infrastructure, newer third-party components, and a more current appliance baseline.
FileWave-provided Server, Booster, and Imaging Virtual Server appliances now move forward on Debian 13. The release also includes database and component updates that help keep FileWave current, secure, and ready for the next stage of lifecycle automation.
For IT teams, the benefit is simple: a healthier foundation for the systems that manage the rest of the environment.
Less friction when it is time to upgrade
Keeping management infrastructure current should not feel like a separate project every time a new version arrives. FileWave 16.3.1 adds more help around upgrade awareness and version alignment.
FileWave Central can now guide its own upgrade when connecting to a newer FileWave Server, helping administrators stay aligned without manually hunting for the right installer. Boosters also get better upgrade handling, with reminders and controlled automatic upgrades that can roll out one Booster at a time.
FileWave 16.3 also introduces groundwork for safer future Client upgrades through the new FileWave Client Upgrader. The bigger payoff comes as that workflow expands, but this release starts putting the pieces in place.
Clearer workflows for administrators
A good management platform should reduce the number of places an administrator has to look to answer a simple question. FileWave 16.3.1 improves several everyday workflows with that in mind.
Reports, formerly Inventory Queries, now uses consistent naming across FileWave Central and FileWave Anywhere. Reinstall Filesetbehavior is more consistent across supported fileset types. Client Info gives administrators better visibility into the Filesets behind applied policies. Inventory can also report Fileset creation and modification dates, which makes it easier to understand when content changed and what may need review.
These are practical improvements. They are not flashy, but they make the product easier to operate when an administrator is troubleshooting, auditing, or cleaning up an environment.
Ready for Apple's next management model
Apple device management continues to shift toward Declarative Device Management, and FileWave 16.3.1 keeps moving with it.
This release expands DDM support, adds more control over app update behavior and version pinning, updates Profile Editor payload support, improves ADE and VPP-related workflows, and supports Apple's move from Rapid Security Response to Background Security Improvements.
For customers managing iOS and iPadOS Kiosk, there is also an important change: FileWave Kiosk now deploys as an Apple App Store VPP app. Customers should review the release notes before upgrading so App Store licensing and Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager sync are ready.
Security where administrators need it
FileWave Central and FileWave Anywhere now include brute force login protection, enabled by default. Repeated failed sign-in attempts can trigger a lockout, helping protect administrative access without requiring customers to build that protection themselves.
The 16.3 line also includes a broad refresh of important third-party components, including maintenance updates in 16.3.1. That work is not meant to draw attention to itself, but it helps keep the platform current behind the scenes.
A release focused on making management easier
FileWave 16.3.1 is about making modern device management easier to operate, scale, and trust. It strengthens the foundation, reduces upgrade friction, improves visibility, and keeps FileWave aligned with the way device management is changing.
Device management will keep getting more complex. FileWave is built to help IT teams stay in control anyway.
